A change in plans

So...remember how I said I got a job at Jimmy John's? Well I did, but some things happened and it didn't end up working out. I began applying at several other places. I had an interview and then a second one at Doterra, an essential oils company, and guess what?? I got the job! It only took 3 weeks to find out, but whatever I'm over it.

I start July 30th. Luckily, that's right when I get back from a trip with my family to New York. I can't wait to start working again. I must admit, I feel a little bit lost without a job. When people ask me what I do with my time I kind of stare awkwardly at them and quickly try to think of something, because other than going to the gym, I do basically nothing.

You know that quote by President Hinckley that says something along the lines of Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright it's not the end. That has brought me great comfort in the last month or so.

I'll be working 30 hours in the fall. Does that sound a little crazy? I think so. I looked at the classes I'm currently registered for and I can only take 2 of the 7 with the shift I'll be working. So that means I have some rearranging to take care of soon.

All in all, even with the potential problems I'll be running in to, I am extremely thankful to have a good job up ahead.

Life has a way of working itself out.

My Pinterest Summer

I love Pinterest. I think it's fair to say most people that have one do. These last few weeks I've found myself with mounds of time on my hands, so I figured I may as well actually try some of those crafts I've pinned. Now I've never considered myself crafty. Honestly, I'd say I'm anything but. But life is all about taking chances, right?
So here are some of the things I've made.

First: The Festive 4th of July Wreath.
You can see how to make this here

The main things you need are red, white, and blue pieces of felt, a styrofoam wreath, and push pins.

This is a great craft to do if you are planning on a movie marathon anytime in the near future. It's super easy and ends up looking super cute! Mine is now proudly hanging on my grandma's front door. As you can tell I'm thrilled about it, really though I am.

Second: Quote on a mirror

You can see this craft here. I wanted to try this on a mirror, just for fun. So after some extensive garage sale shopping I found this mirror for $1.50. What a steal!

Along with garage sales, I would suggest looking at DI and Savers, but always DI first.

Next I put the stickers on it.

Then took it outside for a little bit of painting

And for the final product....

If I were to do this one again, I would use spray paint instead of craft paint. It will make it look more even.

Third: School Countdown

This summer has been a strange one. I miss my girls more than I thought I would. I see them far less than I'd like. But that's life.

We went to visit Sarah one night at Aspen Grove.

We decided it would be fun to make some sort of countdown until school starts. We all have different things we are specifically looking forward to. The end of a summer job, the end of summer semester, moving back in with everyone, you get the idea. Stephanie and I were looking up ideas online and we saw an idea on etsy that we thought we could probably handle.

Once we had set out all the necessary equipment we got to business.

Stephanie cut the paper.
I rolled it into tubes (sorry no picture).
Sarah stapled and put candy in the tubes.

After a few hours we ended up with 4 strings filled with candy.

To make it a little bit more exciting we decided to put random challenges on some of them. My challenge for today was make a craft from Pinterest. (Thanks ladies). And that is what inspired my next craft!
Good work team!

Fourth: Colored Jeans

Colored jeans are quite the hit this summer. And while I like to be as trendy as the next person my budget doesn't always agree. When I saw this I knew I had to try it out. First I went to DI and bought a pair of white jeans that fit in the waist.

Next I took the legs in to make them into skinny jeans.

I bought a dye from Wal-Mart. They had quite a wide selection. Turquoise sounded fun.

I followed the directions. Tub courtesy of my brothers room.

And the final result looks like this!

My hands are definitely a little bit tinted, but I'm not too worried. Hurrah for inexpensive pants!

Fifth: Festive Headband

This one is just because I really am obsessed with the 4th. I got the idea from here. If you haven't checked out craftgawker.com yet you should get on that. I took some of the leftover felt from the wreath and cut out 4 stars. I then sewed them onto a headband. Quick and easy but oh so festive!

My next project I'm hoping to make is a t-shirt rug. We'll see how that goes.

Happy 4th everyone!
